The Process
URochester Sites gives University-affiliated websites a clear path from request to launch, with ownership, training, accessibility, analytics, and long-term maintenance built into the process.
Provide basic information about the site, including its purpose, audience, requested URL, and whether it is new or moving from an existing location. Each site must have at least one full-time faculty or staff member identified as the site manager.
Site managers and editors are assigned required training through the University’s training system using their URIDs. Editing access is granted after training is complete, helping ensure each site is managed by users who understand Rochester Core, accessibility expectations, and ongoing content responsibilities.
Sites are created or migrated in WordPress using a streamlined version of Rochester Core, the University’s official WordPress theme. This gives each site a supported foundation for accessible components, brand alignment, and easier long-term maintenance.
Before launch, each site is set up with the University’s standard analytics script, Siteimprove reporting, ownership details, and any needed redirects from previous URLs. These support rails help site owners understand performance, address accessibility and quality issues, and keep the site connected to University standards.
Site owners are responsible for keeping content accurate, accessible, and current. Required training is assigned annually, and sites without trained administrators may have editing access removed or be retired into the backup archive.
