This course explores human evolution and history using population genetics. \u00a0Among the topics covered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What does paleoanthropology says about human evolution?<\/li>\n<li>Kinds, amounts, and causes of human genetic variation<\/li>\n<li>The genetic basis of adaptation in human populations<\/li>\n<li>Migration and demographic history<\/li>\n<li>What&#8217;s in the human genome and why?<\/li>\n<li>Interactions between modern and archaic humans<\/li>\n<li>How does cultural evolution affect biological evolution?<\/li>\n<li>Finding the mutations that cause disease<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #333399;\">BIO472. Advanced Topics in Evolution and Ecology.<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This team-taught graduate course covers a variety of topics, laying the foundations for graduate study in evolution and ecology.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #333399;\">BIO265. Molecular Evolution [retired in 2018]<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This course explored evolution at the molecular level. Among the topics covered:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inferring history from DNA sequences<\/li>\n<li>Determining how natural selection shapes the evolution of genes<\/li>\n<li>Studying the relationship between molecular and phenotypic evolution<\/li>\n<li>Studying the evolution of genome organization and content<\/li>\n<li>Assigning biological function to genome sequences<\/li>\n<li>Finding the sources of epidemics<\/li>\n<li>Mapping genes involved in human diseases and adaptations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BIO265.
