Performing research on Imaging Science
Work with Dr. James R. Fienup, the Robert E. Hopkins Professor of Optics at the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics
Primary current areas of interest include:
- Wavefront sensing for adaptive optics by phase retrieval/phase diversity: Phasing the segmented primary mirror for the James Webb Space Telescope
- Optical metrology using phase retrieval
- Digital holography for imaging through atmospheric turbulence
- Large ground-based or space telescopes using sparse apertures or segmented optics
- Understanding image quality, effect of aberrations
- Image restoration/reconstruction algorithms
- Unconventional imaging systems, for example: laser illumination with no image-formation optics, imaging through atmospheric turbulence, super-resolution by structured illumination
- Phase retrieval algorithms for image reconstruction (e.g., from X-ray diffraction data)
